Process: Rabbit Hole

Hey! I'm still celebrating the new year and, so far, sticking to my resolutions. Here's another process post.

If you'll pardon the swing in mediums, Rabbit Hole was done completely digital. It's mood also evolved A LOT. You can see where it began and compare that to how it turned out.

This piece piggybacks off of an older illustration, An Author's Words. The old work was about finding comfort in reading great stories, and thus gaining strength to deal with life's difficulties. This new piece is about finding strength within yourself.

Art born from stress rarely looks coherent, at least in my case. That's why I'm pleased that this one stuck.

Painting everywhere to fill in all those shapes. The background also gets brighter to make the central character pop out. Notice too that her hand is now up to push one of the demons away - she's getting bolder!

In the back of my mind, a voice kept saying BOOM. I caved. It totally spun into a new narrative.
